Job summary

Nuvance Health is seeking an experienced Medical Coder to accurately code outpatient records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines. You will query providers when documentation is unclear and enter data for reimbursement and statistics.

A minimum of 2–4 years coding experience and relevant certifications are required. Candidates should be proficient in MS Office and familiar with coding manuals/regulatory websites.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience required.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT-4, Disease Pathology, Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology.
• Advanced knowledge of Evaluation and Management Coding guidelines.
• 2-4 years of coding experience.
• Familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Usage of coding manuals and regulatory websites for research.
• Certification from AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT or specialty) required.

Responsibilities

• Codes outpatient medical records accurately and timely per department policy.
• Transforms verbal descriptions of diseases/procedures into ICD-10-CM/CPT-4 codes.
• Initiates physician/department queries for ambiguous documentation.
• Enters required information into the billing/reimbursement system.
• Independently reconcile charges and identify missing charges.
• Maintain accuracy rate of 95% in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding.
• Stays current with federal/state/regulatory coding guidelines.
• Applies guidelines to ensure code accuracy.
• Researches reference materials to support code selection.
• Participates in Quality Improvement/Performance activities.
• Reports software/hardware issues and attends educational sessions.
