Job summary

LanguageLine Solutions LLC invites qualified Oromo-English interpreters to work from home, handling on-demand phone interpretations for diverse industries. Independent contractor status applies, with emphasis on accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and adherence to client protocols.

Position requires 18+ years, US work authorization, and the ability to maintain a quiet, secure home office. Training is provided, with opportunities for advancement and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Oromo and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics.
• Provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences to communicate with LEP.
• Excellent listening, retention and note-taking for accuracy during interpretation.
• Maintain neutrality and objectivity on calls, including sensitive topics.
• Experience in language-related fields preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Applicants must have work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Applicants employed by a client or affiliated LanguageLine entity may not be eligible.
• Ability to read and write the requested languages is highly preferred.
• Location may require post-offer background check and/or drug screen

Responsibilities

• Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation professionally.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to interpretation conventions.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions.
• Remain calm during sessions in emergency situations like 911 calls.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions to meet LEP needs and avoid unnecessary interactions.
• Understand protocol for industries including Medical, Insurance, Finance and Law.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and diversity.
• Some calls may be highly emotional or stressful; may require extended on-call periods.
