Job summary

DeVry University is seeking an Online Visiting Professor of Software Development to teach undergraduate and graduate courses across multiple fields. Courses meet once or twice weekly for eight weeks, with face-to-face interaction blended with online discussions and assignments.

Faculty develop syllabi, organize course materials, and use online tools to deliver accessible content. Emphasis on AI integration, secure coding, and delivering high‑quality instruction with ongoing professional

Qualifications

• A doctorate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field is required, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in software development, programming, software engineering, or related computing disciplines.
• Three to five years of applied professional experience in software development, software engineering, application development, or related programming roles.
• Demonstrated experience with modern programming languages, development frameworks, and software engineering practices, including design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications.
• Industry-recognized certifications or professional credentials relevant to programming, software engineering, or application development.
• Strong subject matter expertise in software development principles, with effective communication skills to explain complex concepts to diverse learners.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices, software lifecycle management, and QA methodologies, including testing, debugging, and version control practices.
• Additional requirements driven by state licensing, institutional policy, or accreditation standards may apply.
• Faculty must commit to ongoing professional development in instructional technology, digital literacy, and responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Develops and provides students with an approved DeVry University syllabus that follows a campus template, including terminal course objectives.
• Organizes, prepares, and regularly revises and updates all course materials.
• Uses appropriate online technologies and course-related software for preparing and delivering the course.
• Models effective oral and written communications that engage students and improve learning.
• Sets clear course expectations by publishing terminal objectives, assignment/exam dates, and weight distributions.
• Ensures exams align with course objectives and provide timely feedback.
• Demonstrates consistency and fairness in grading and feedback.
• Embraces responsible AI use in teaching to enhance outcomes and addresses appropriate AI use by students.
• Completes other duties as assigned.
