Job summary

San José State University’s SJSU Online program seeks an Online Student Success Advisor to support enrollment, retention, and engagement for online students. Under the Managing Director, you will provide academic advising and success coaching, monitor progress, outreach proactively, and connect students to University resources to foster success.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a related field
• Two years of professional experience in student services or related field; master's may substitute for one year of experience
• Strong advising and counseling skills with active listening and problem solving

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic academic advising and support to online students
• Implement proactive advising with ongoing relationships and regular progress tracking
• Assist students with goal setting, time management, and study skills
• Orient students to academic requirements, planning tools, and university resources
• Identify barriers to student success and develop action plans for completion
• Support students facing retention challenges and refer to campus resources as needed
• Maintain responsive, student-centered communication via email, phone, and video conferencing
• Collaborate with the Managing Director on strategic outreach and onboarding processes
• Monitor new student orientation for engagement and responsiveness
• Plan online student community events and co-curricular resources to foster belonging
