Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory seeks a Nuclear Remote Systems Engineer to develop, operate, and maintain remotely operated mechanical systems and hot cell equipment for advanced nuclear research at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) in Idaho Falls.

The role collaborates across researchers, technicians, operators, and scientists throughout the equipment lifecycle from concept to long-term configuration management.

Qualifications

• Requires ABET-accredited engineering degree and relevant experience.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain DOE L clearance.
• Experience in development testing, electromechanical design, mock-up qualification testing, installation support, and acceptance testing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and produce remotely operated process equipment/systems for hot-cell and glove-box applications.
• Provide engineering solutions for one-of-a-kind design challenges in research programs.
• Design and develop remote handling equipment, fixtures, and related systems.
• Modify existing equipment for new missions; adapt commercially available gear for remote use.
• Serve as a technical interface between nuclear facilities, investigators, projects and programs.
• Support research through process development and data analysis of nuclear fuel and materials.
• Interact with researchers to determine experiment-specific remote process requirements.
• Complete design reviews and verification; manage configuration control.
• Possibly engage in procurement, quality level determination, scheduling, and cost estimating for small projects.
