Job summary

JSI in Huntsville, AL, is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to operate, maintain, and grow our fiber access networks for rural ISP partners. The role supports day-to-day reliability, process improvements, and long-term network architecture within a mission-driven team.

You will coordinate with carriers, manage incidents, participate in after-hours support, and contribute to onboarding new partners. A BS in engineering or IT plus 3+ years of network experience and vendor OS knowledge are

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, networking, information technology, or a related field.
• 3 years of relevant network engineering or network operations experience.
• Experience as primary technical point of contact with external partners or accounts.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize concurrent technical work.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals and OSI model.
• Hands-on experience with Ethernet, GPON, XGS-PON, VLAN, LAG, VRF.
• Experience with Junos OS and IOS.
• Knowledge of LogicMonitor or PRTG.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and commission FTTx network infrastructure and maintain carrier-grade equipment.
• Serve as primary technical contact for partner Statements of Work and incidents; drive day-to-day operations.
• Monitor partner network health and performance; propose operational improvements.
• Coordinate project work across team members; track progress and status.
• Execute maintenance activities per defined Procedures of Service and firmware updates.
• Assist with onboarding new partners and auditing network data.
