Job summary

AECOM seeks a Natural Gas Compression Subject Matter Expert to join our multi-disciplinary design team for a major gas transmission project. This remote role offers flexible scheduling and the opportunity to serve as the technical authority for compression stations.

The SME will set compression philosophy, equipment selection, and station layouts, guiding engineering direction, governance, and oversight across all compression designs.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 8+ years of related experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required; lead engineer/SME on large-scale natural gas compression projects.

Responsibilities

• Define compression philosophy and equipment selection criteria (reciprocating vs centrifugal).
• Lead thermodynamic and gas hydraulic calculations for multi-stage compressor sizing.
• Review dynamic analysis (pulsation, torsional vibration, surge) to ensure integrity.
• Prepare technical specs and data sheets for major rotating equipment.
• Lead TBEs, vendor integration, FAT witness points, and OEM alignment.
• Standardize engineering, procurement and constructability while adapting to site specifics.
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, compressor layouts, ESD logic, and hazard mitigation plans.
• Support proposal development with technical write-ups and client presentations.
• Interface with client leadership, regulatory bodies, and operations teams.
