Job summary

Vettedlance is seeking a skilled calligrapher to transcribe Arabic-script texts from Qur'an manuscripts and scholarly copies. You will work on Naskh and Thuluth material, ensuring full vowelling where present and distinguishing scribal marks from the text.

Remote, per-page contract (independent contractor) with a part-time, flexible schedule of 10–40 hrs/week. Rates are set after a short paid test, paid in USD.

Qualifications

• Trained calligrapher, or deep reading experience in Naskh and Thuluth
• Strong Arabic reading, including classical vocabulary
• Accurate typing in Arabic script with diacritics
• Patience with dense, decorated or damaged pages

Responsibilities

• Transcribe Naskh manuscript pages with full vowelling where present
• Read Thuluth headings, inscriptions and decorative panels
• Distinguish scribal marks, verse markers and ornament from text
• Review other transcribers' work on the hardest pages
