Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Software Testing Principal (MUMPS) to lead testing efforts for mission-critical VA healthcare systems in a remote environment. You will design test plans, validate HL7, FHIR, and EDI workflows, and mentor junior testers across legacy VistA/FileMan interfaces.

The role requires strong experience with MUMPS/InterSystems Cache, SDLC, test automation, and cross-functional collaboration with developers, analysts, and end users to ensure quality and regulatory

Qualifications

• Experience healthcare/government or other highly regulated environments.
• Experience testing enterprise applications in healthcare operations.
• Experience supporting legacy applications and long-lived systems.
• Experience testing applications developed using MUMPS and/or InterSystems Cache.
• Experience validating healthcare business workflows and system functionality.
• Experience developing detailed test plans, test scenarios, test scripts, and test cases.
• Experience performing functional, regression, integration, system, and UAT testing.
• Understanding of SDLC and testing methodologies.
• Experience validating database updates and data integrity.
• Ability to analyze system logs, errors, and test results to identify root causes.
• Experience testing interfaces and system integrations.
• Knowledge of HL7, FHIR, HIPAA EDI Transactions.
• Experience validating EDI healthcare transactions (e.g., 278, 275).
• Proficient with defect tracking and test management tools.

Responsibilities

• Support testing and QA activities for healthcare applications in MUMPS/InterSystems Cache.
• Support modernization, system enhancements, interoperability initiatives, and production support for legacy systems.
• Develop and execute test plans, cases, scripts, and procedures for MUMPS/InterSystems Cache environments.
• Validate software enhancements, maintenance releases, defects, and upgrades.
• Support functional, integration, regression, UAT, and end-to-end testing.
• Verify data integrity across legacy applications, databases, and interfaces.
• Test HL7, FHIR, EDI transactions and related standards.
• Participate in Beta/IOC testing with facilities and end users; document results and coordinate fixes.
• Analyze and troubleshoot defects and production incidents.
• Collaborate with developers, analysts, product owners, and end users on test objectives.
• Create test data and environments for healthcare workflows.
• Execute manual and automated testing where applicable.
• Track and communicate testing metrics, defects, risks, and status.
• Validate VistA/FileMan integrations and healthcare messaging platforms.
• Support root cause analysis and verification of fixes.
• Review requirements to ensure testability and coverage.
• Contribute to improving testing processes and standards.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship in testing.
