Job summary

The Chicago School seeks an Academic Tutor to support IllinoisCOM students with academic success strategies. Tutors provide individual and/or group tutoring across courses based on their expertise. Sessions are virtual; tutors do not complete assignments or reveal exam content.

The tutor reports to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. Remote, part-time, typically 2–10 hours weekly, with at least two tutoring days. Training and ongoing development are provided.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an MD or DO medical school and in good standing.
• Proficiency in each course or subject area to tutor as demonstrated by coursework or recommendations.
• Maintain good academic and professional standing throughout employment.
• Prior tutoring or academic-support experience preferred.
• Ability to tutor virtually from a private, professional environment with reliable internet.

Responsibilities

• Complete required tutor training and onboarding.
• Prepare for and facilitate individual or group tutoring sessions.
• Document tutoring attendance and services in the designated system.
• Protect confidentiality of examinations, student information, and course materials.
• Apply study techniques addressing different learning needs and styles.
• Foster a professional and welcoming environment respecting diverse backgrounds.
• Use active listening to tailor content and pacing to student needs.
• Provide virtual tutoring with reliable audio/video capability.
• Refer students to campus or community resources when needed.
• Encourage problem-solving through inquiry and collaboration.
