Job summary

Ascension is seeking a remote-based claims leader to oversee medical malpractice investigations and strategy from initial report to resolution. The role directs defense counsel, manages loss reserves, and reports to the National Claims Committee for high-exposure matters.

You will negotiate settlements, participate in mediations and trials, and collaborate with Risk Management to drive safer patient care and lower liability.

Qualifications

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Medical Malpractice Oversight: Leads the strategy and investigation for complex professional liability and medical malpractice claims from initial report through final resolution.
• Litigation Management: Directs external defense counsel on case action plans, ensuring all litigation adheres to organizational guidelines and protocols.
• Financial & Regulatory Reporting: Establishes precise loss reserves and executes National Claims Committee reports for significant high-exposure matters.
• Direct Settlement Authority: Negotiates directly with plaintiff attorneys and represents the organization at mediations, trials, and depositions to secure favorable settlements.
• Risk Mitigation: Collaborates with Risk Management to translate claim outcomes into "lessons learned" that improve patient safety and reduce future liability.
