Job summary

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is seeking a Medical Coding Supervisor to lead the coding department in a remote, full-time role based in New Mexico. The candidate must reside in NM or relocate, with occasional in-person office visits in Albuquerque.

Responsibilities include overseeing daily coding operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and driving improvements in accuracy and efficiency across the team.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of medical coding experience; 1 year in a supervisory role.
• Certification in CPC, CPC-P, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT preferred (or eligible).

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the medical coding team; manage onboarding, allocation, scheduling and training; enforce procedures and resolve issues.
• Ensure coding compliance with federal, state, payer regulations and internal guidelines.
• Provide ongoing staff training on policy changes and payer requirements; keep coding staff updated on specialties.
• Monitor KPIs, generate reports, track performance and optimize workload distribution.
• Assist in developing coding policies; align with federal/state regulations and UNMMG policies.
• Conduct quality reviews and audits; collaborate to prevent and resolve denials.
• Plan and implement operational improvements in coding processes.
• Collaborate with physicians and departments to educate on documentation and coding policies.
• Provide feedback on billing/coding findings and documentation deficiencies to providers.
• Plan and supervise audits and reviews; propose coding edits as needed.
• Resolve coding edits and ensure confidentiality of medical records.
