Job summary

Optum is seeking a Coding Quality Analyst to accurately review patient medical records and craft defensible appeal letters in line with ICD-9/10, CM and PCS, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines. The role requires HIPAA compliance, data extraction, and high-quality reviews under time constraints.

You will telecommute from anywhere in the U.S., supporting flexible scheduling and collaboration with the team and clients. Strong typing, documentation, and communication skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, CDIP, CCDS certification preferred.
• 3+ years inpatient hospital coding experience.
• 3+ years DRG methodology experience.
• 3+ years outpatient coding experience.
• 2+ years Medicare/Medicaid experience.
• Proficiency with ICD-9-CM and ICD-10 coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to approved schedule and arrives on time.
• Composes appeal letters with data extraction and medical literature references.
• Uses encoders, coding clinics, ICD-9/10, CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.
• Works with Word and other software.
• Communicates effectively and maintains HIPAA confidentiality.
• Supports and promotes Optum and enterprise goals.
