Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a full-time coding professional to support facility outpatient coding, including Emergency Department services. You will assign ICD-10 codes, CPT modifiers, and adhere to AHIMA/AAPC guidelines while maintaining high-quality productivity.

The role requires coding credentials, ER experience, and proficiency with EMR systems and Excel. Telecommuting is allowed within the United States, with standard business hours and occasional overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) to be maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of experience in Emergency Room coding.
• Proficiency with Windows PC, including Microsoft Excel and EMR systems.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and communication.

Responsibilities

• Expert knowledge in all facility outpatient coding types: Emergency Department.
• Identify assignment of ICD-10 Codes, CPT and modifiers for facility services per guidelines.
• Adhere to ethical standards of coding per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Meet performance levels for coding quality and productivity as defined by Optum.
• Understand Medicare APC codes.
• Query physicians and forms when appropriate.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding systems and medical terminology.
• Knowledge of NCCI edits, Medicare LCD/NCD policies.
• Knowledge of professional ER leveling.
• Keep coding knowledge up-to-date via QM Managers and Directors.
• Participate in coding dept meetings and educational events.
• Additional responsibilities as identified by manager.
