Job summary

AAPC is seeking a Professional Coder II to accurately code professional services from medical records, assigning ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, and E/M levels per AMA/CMS guidelines across multiple specialties.

This is a fully remote role after the initial probation period; on-site attendance may be required for special assignments or training. Location appears as Kansas City, MO in job details.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent in education and experience.
• Current AAPC or AHIMA Coding Certification (e.g., CPC, COC, CCS, Specialty Coding Credential) or RHIT, RHIA, CEDC (Certified Emergency Department Coder).
• 2 years medical records coding of CPT/HCPCS & ICD-10 for multiple specialties
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, MC+ and other reimbursement programs.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9/10, HCPCS coding and medical terminology
• Proficiency with PATH documentation guidelines
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
• Knowledge of medical information systems for physician billing
• Proficient with computer hardware and software systems
• Understanding LCD and NCCI edits and proper code sequencing
• Effective verbal and written communication; detail oriented
• Ability to work independently and in a group

Responsibilities

• Code professional services accurately according to AMA/CMS guidelines.
• Review documentation and assign correct ICD-10-CM diagnosis, CPT/HCPCS codes and E/M levels across multiple specialties.
• Remote work after probation; on-site presence possible for special assignments or training.
