Job summary

Essentia Health in the United States seeks a Professional Coder to evaluate health record documentation and charges to optimize reimbursement. You will ensure that diagnostic and procedural codes accurately reflect the outpatient visit and comply with regulatory guidelines.

The role requires knowledge of ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and CPT coding, plus completing a coding program or CCS/CPC/RHIA/RHIT credentials and passing Essentia Health's coding skills assessment.

Qualifications

• Must complete or be enrolled in a medical coding program with ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, CPT, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Passing score on Essentia Health coding skills assessment test.
• Credentialed as or eligible for CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIA or RHIT and pass Essentia skills test.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates health record documentation and charges to optimize reimbursement by ensuring codes reflect the outpatient visit.
• Ensures data complies with regulatory and coding guidelines; assigns ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and CPT codes.
• Adheres to the quality and productivity standards set by the department.

Education

Successful completion or currently enrolled in a medical coding program which includes completed course work in ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, CPT codes, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and disease process AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH coding skills assessment test

Credentialed as, or eligible for, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) AND a passing score on the ESSENTIA HEALTH coding skills assessment test
