Remote Medical Coder-Hospital Billing
Pay Range: Up to 65K Annually | Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm EST | Location: Fully Remote

Your Role: Essential, Rewarding, Impactful
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Certified Medical Coder specializing in hospital billing. This role involves accurately assigning ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and appropriate revenue codes, modifiers, and other billing elements for UB-04 claim forms. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of inpatient, outpatient, and observation hospital coding, including compliance with CMS regulations and payer-specific requirements.
What You'll Do
- Review and analyze hospital medical records and documentation to ensure accurate and complete coding.
- Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes according to UHDDS and CMS guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with hospital coding rules, NCCI edits, DRG assignments, POA indicators, and payer billing requirements.
- Code and validate charges for inpatient, outpatient, ED, and observation encounters for UB-04 claims.
- Use and understand appropriate revenue codes, condition codes, occurrence codes, and value codes.
- Perform quality audits and assist with internal and external coding validation and compliance reviews.
- Monitor denial trends and collaborate with billing and revenue integrity teams to reduce recoding and rebilling.
- Work closely with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) teams to support optimal documentation and code capture.
- Maintain current knowledge of coding updates, CMS regulations, and payer-specific policy changes.
- Mentor junior coders and support coding education and onboarding.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 5–7 years of hospital coding experience with a strong background in UB-04 claim form preparation.
- Experience with inpatient, outpatient surgery, emergency department, and observation level of care coding.
- Knowledge of Medicare Severity-DRG (MS-DRG), APR-DRG, and outpatient APC reimbursement methodologies.
- Familiarity with HIM workflows and electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic, Meditech, Cerner).
- Excellent working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding systems.
- Strong understanding of revenue cycle processes and billing workflows for hospital claims.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficient with encoder tools, Microsoft Office, and hospital billing software systems.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management preferred.
- Required Certification: CCS (AHIMA), RHIT, RHIA, or CIC credentials. Additional AAPC certifications a plus.
