Geisinger is seeking a Health Information Coder to transform clinical descriptions into coded data from home in Pennsylvania. You will review records, translate diagnoses and procedures, and ensure compliant coding for claims.

The role requires at least 1 year of related experience and AHIMA/AAPC certification upon hire, with CCS/RHIT/RHIA options and a 12‑month attainment window for certain credentials.

Qualifikationen

• One relevant coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC required on hire.
• Certifications include CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA or CCA; CCS/RHIT/RHIA within 12 months.
• AAPC certifications accepted except listed exclusions.
• High School diploma or GED required; specialty training preferred.
• At least 1 year of related coding experience.

Aufgaben

• Review medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures for coding.
• Detail verification of documents to ensure complete coding.
• Translate clinical phrases into coded form using codes for billing.
• Use Encoder to determine codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Determine code sequencing to maximize reimbursement.
• Assign DRG and follow coding guidelines and regulations.
• Query physicians to clarify documentation as needed.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and recommend improvements.
