Job summary

Washington Institute for Coagulation d/b/a Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders (WACBD) is seeking a Medical Accounts Receivable Billing Specialist in Seattle. You will manage insurance and patient AR, ensure accurate billing, and support collections while maintaining meticulous records.

Reporting to the Revenue Cycle Manager, you will work with payers and patients to resolve issues, post payments, and monitor denials trends.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years hands-on medical billing and AR experience with denials and posting.
• Minimum of 5 years hands-on medical billing and AR in lieu of certification.
• Deep knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding principles.
• Proficiency with clearinghouses and payer portals.
• Demonstrated success in improving AR metrics like DSO and first-pass yield.
• Strong understanding of payer policies for commercial, CMS, and third-party payers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to craft clear appeals with documentation.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, EHR, and practice management systems.

Responsibilities

• Review AR aging reports to identify balances and prioritize follow-up.
• Work complex denials (coding, medical necessity, eligibility, prior auth, duplicates) and submit appeals.
• Contact insurance payers to verify claim status, resolve issues, and request reprocessing.
• Post, reconcile, and verify insurance payments accurately.
• Communicate with patients regarding eligibility, out-of-pocket costs, and benefits.
• Reconcile ERA/EOB, post payments and adjustments, resolve under/overpayments, escalate variances.
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing and reimbursement issues.
• Report trends in denials and payer performance to management.
• Maintain detailed records of all activity in the billing system.
• Support Revenue Integrity/Coding to improve charge capture and SOPs.
