Job summary

For People is seeking a Medicaid Policy and Program Strategist to operate as the program owner for engagement with federal and state Medicaid partners. You will design workflows, gather insights, and support improvements in Medicaid program operations to inform policy decisions and improve healthcare outcomes for millions of Americans.

This 6-month independent contractor (1099) role is 100% remote, open to candidates nationwide in the United States. U.S.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of working in or with Medicaid programs at the state or federal level.
• Collaborative attitude and strong diplomatic skills when navigating complex stakeholder dynamics.
• Excellent writing and speaking abilities with warmth, clarity, and approachability.

Responsibilities

• Act as a translator between technical teams, policy experts, state administrators, and federal stakeholders, turning dense government or technical concepts into friendly, accessible guidance.
• Collaborate across policy, product, and engineering to align regulatory goals with delivery realities.
• Manage and oversee our state Medicaid partner support channels.
• Identify opportunities for process or product improvements to federal programs supporting Medicaid data tools.
• Build, templatize, and continuously improve interactions with Medicaid partners for consistency and clarity.
• Identify operational trends and advise when leadership or internal partners should be involved.
• Coordinate closely with federal partners to keep cross-agency efforts aligned.
• Advocate for Medicaid program needs by translating state insights back to product and engineering teams.
