Job summary

Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O'Brien, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer on an independent contractor basis to support data centre projects across the U.S. You will model, design, and analyze HVAC, piping, and related systems using BIM and CAD tools, perform CFD analyses, and prepare calculations and specifications.

This long-term engagement offers remote collaboration, exposure to hyperscale facilities, and a competitive hourly rate; a formal independent contractor

Qualifications

• A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering (mechanical or related field).
• At least 4-5 years of experience as an HVAC or mechanical engineer.
• Proven expertise in the design of mechanical/HVAC systems.
• Written and spoken English B1 and higher.
• Hands-on experience with Revit Autodesk - is a must.
• Experience with CFD software and mechanical modelling tools.
• Experience in designing building and engineering systems for industrial, commercial, or mission-critical projects.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering codes and safety standards.
• Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize while meeting project deadlines.
• Self-starter, ambitious, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Use BIM tools to model mechanical systems and coordinate with other disciplines (Autodesk Revit).
• Understand project scope, cost, and schedule and deliverables.
• Determine and expedite engineering deliverables.
• Develop and maintain project scope of work docs.
• Design HVAC, piping, chilled water, boilers, humidification, and cooling towers.
• Prepare calculations, schematic and detailed designs.
• Perform CFD analysis to optimise performance.
• Prepare design criteria, calculations, specifications and data sheets.
• Review shop drawings.
• Create models/drawings in BIM and CAD tools.
• Occasional site visits; U.S. work visa considered an asset but not required.
