Job summary

Mercor is seeking a PhD-level Mathematical Physicist for a remote, contract engagement lasting 8 to 10 weeks. The role focuses on solving research-level physics problems, auditing results, and collaborating on AI model performance in physics reasoning.

Candidates must have a PhD in mathematical physics, theoretical physics, or mathematics, with three to five representative publications. Proficiency in LaTeX, Python, SymPy, and Jupyter, plus English at B2 or higher, is required.

Proficiency in LaTeX, Python, SymPy, and Jupyter; strong written reasoning.
English at B2 or above.

Responsibilities

Develop and solve research-level physics problems in your subfield, verifiable for independent checking.
Review and audit completed work with high standards of written reasoning akin to mathematics.
Collaborate with peers to create problems and evaluate AI model performance in physics research reasoning.
Utilize Python, SymPy, and Jupyter for symbolic computation; familiarity with VS Code agentic extension is useful.
Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines and improve AI model performance.
