Job summary

Eliassen Group seeks a seasoned Mainframe Engineer to design, develop and support mainframe solutions remotely as a contract resource. You will guide architecture, drive migrations, and ensure reliable operation across platforms with agile teams.

The ideal candidate combines 10+ years of mainframe experience with COBOL, CICS, SAS and MQ proficiency, plus strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or comparable experience.
• 20+ years of professional IT experience.
• Expert knowledge of mainframe operating systems and hardware.
• Strong knowledge of TSO and mainframe technology.
• Experience with COBOL, CICS, SAS, and MQ.
• Background in Wealth and Asset Management.
• Knowledge of functional software design and development best practices.
• Experience with Git and GitHub.
• Understanding of software development methodologies.
• Strong problem solving and collaboration skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as mainframe subject matter expert.
• Participate in infrastructure planning and direction setting for mainframe tech.
• Maintain understanding of current and future infrastructure.
• Publish mainframe language and tool roadmaps.
• Coordinate cross-department mainframe migrations.
• Demonstrate broad technical knowledge or deep expertise in one area.
• Stay current on IT trends and apply new concepts.
• Mentor developers and enforce coding standards.
• Automate processes and write maintainable code.
• Partner with operations and engineering teams for service improvements.
