Job summary

Evergreen Virtual Academy, a remote public charter school serving K-12 in Oregon, seeks a Literacy Specialist to deliver targeted reading interventions and support across middle and high school. The role involves small-group instruction, credit recovery support, and collaboration with teachers to strengthen literacy practices.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of reading development, the Science of Reading, literacy assessment, and differentiated instruction, with experience in virtual settings.

Qualifications

• Must have strong knowledge of reading development and literacy instruction.
• Familiarity with the Science of Reading and literacy assessment practices.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and provide literacy interventions.
• Experience supporting middle/high school literacy and credit recovery when needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted reading and literacy intervention for grades 6-12.
• Teach scheduled reading intervention classes beyond core instruction.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction based on student needs.
• Push into general education classes to provide literacy support.
• Support foundational reading skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension.
• Monitor progress and adjust instruction based on results.
• Collaborate with teachers and families to align interventions with grade-level learning.
