Job summary

Nationwide IT Services is seeking a hands-on Linux Systems & DevOps Engineer to support the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) ShakeAlert project. This remote, full-time role requires residing in the United States and completing government suitability and PIV credentials.

You will administer Linux systems, implement Ansible automation, manage networks, monitoring, security, and DB operations, while collaborating with engineers and scientists across distributed environments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Linux systems administration in production or operational environments.
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Rocky Linux, or similar enterprise Linux systems.
• Hands-on experience using Ansible to configure and automate Linux systems.
• Ability to install, configure, patch, secure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux servers and services.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure including switches, routers and firewalls.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, patch, secure, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux systems supporting mission-critical operations.
• Use Ansible to configure systems, automate tasks, maintain standardized configurations, and support infrastructure operations.
• Configure and troubleshoot networks, switches, routers, firewalls, and related connectivity.
• Monitor servers, services, processes, and network health; investigate alerts and improve monitoring checks.
• Work with relational databases, including installation/configuration, connectivity, and basic SQL queries.
