Job summary

Guardian Life seeks a seasoned leader in life underwriting to balance analytical rigor with operational discipline. You will guide complex case adjudication, coach underwriters, and drive outcomes that improve mortality metrics and customer satisfaction.

You will leverage automated underwriting tools, collaborate with reinsurers and vendors, and mentor teams while upholding regulatory and ethical standards. This role is fully remote within the United States for a full-time position.

Qualifications

• Extensive life underwriting expertise with authority to adjudicate complex, high-value cases.
• Minimum 5 years of life underwriting experience with leadership in teams.
• Experience with automated underwriting platforms and programs (e.g., Random Holdouts (RHO), Post-Issue Audits (PIA)); quality control management.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management; ability to collaborate with reinsurers and vendors.
• Coaching underwriters to build digital fluency and adopt new tools and workflows.
• Commitment to ethical decision-making, regulatory compliance, and sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert judgment on highly complex and escalated cases, ensuring consistency with guidelines and mortality objectives.
• Oversee complex case adjudication during peak volumes with analytics platforms.
• Lead and develop a team of underwriters, set priorities, ensure SLA adherence, consistency, and quality.
• Leverage analytics dashboards to monitor mortality, placement, cycle time, and referral rates.
• Pilot and validate new underwriting technologies and vendor solutions with documented outcomes.
• Coach and upskill underwriters in analytics, digital tools, and customer-centric practices.
• Negotiate appeals using professional judgment and industry knowledge to go outside guidelines when needed.
• Communicate with field force and home office to gather information and convey decisions politely and professionally.
