Job summary

NWEA, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, is seeking a Learning Scientist, (Mathematics) to advance how PreK-5 students learn math through research-backed models and learning progressions. This remote role allows you to work from anywhere in the United States and contribute to product development with an AI‑first mindset.

You will design math knowledge maps, build ontologies, conduct studies, and translate findings for cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

• PhD in developmental psychology, mathematics education, or related field with a math education focus.
• Expertise in mathematics education trends across grade bands (K-2, middle school).
• Experience as an early-grades classroom teacher is a plus.
• Strong background in qualitative or quantitative research methods in learning sciences.
• Ability to interpret student performance data and communicate findings.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop math learning progressions and knowledge maps.
• Build ontologies and knowledge graphs for student learning progressions.
• Conduct research studies to evaluate product impact on PreK-5 learning.
• Translate research findings into evidence-based product experiences.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate insights clearly.
