Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Lead Medical Records Coder at the Dayton VAMC. The Lead MRT (Coder) will perform all MRT (Coder) duties, review codes, and support timeliness and accuracy across staff.

Responsibilities include guiding coding practice, preparing reports, analyzing data, and coordinating workflow. Remote work is available; candidates should meet VA coding certification requirements and be eligible for federal employment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding concepts.
• Ability to supervise, guide, and train staff to ensure coding accuracy and timeliness.
• Familiarity with ICD, CPT, HCPCS coding rules and health information management standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead MRTs (Coder) and review coding accuracy and timeliness.
• Provide coding guidance to staff to ensure consistency with regulations.
• Prepare and maintain reports and analyze data for workflows.
• Coordinate and monitor coding workflow and staff assignments.
• Assist in training new coders and students on coding and encoder tools.
