EPAM Systems is seeking a Lead Java AI Engineer to own a vertical AI-driven feature set, deliver production-ready code, and optimize complex workflows. The role emphasizes hands-on leadership, architectural discipline, and AI-enabled development practices.

You will work remotely from Georgia with opportunities across our global offices and client projects, driving innovative AI features and scalable solutions. Strong leadership and 5+ years in software engineering are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong hands-on track record.
• At least 1 year of leadership experience or team ownership.
• Expertise in Azure infrastructure, Git branching strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of AI-first development practices and AI agent frameworks (MCP, model-context tools).
• Proficiency in designing and delivering fully owned vertical product slices.
• Strong commitment to clean code, scalable architecture, and system optimization.
• Experience with gen AI-assisted development, prompt engineering, and workflow customization.
• Excellent written and spoken English (B2+).

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of a feature set or product area from design to delivery.
• Work within the shared environment, maintaining settings, agents, and memory structures.
• Update and manage project reference documents.
• Contribute to iterative workflows and agile development.
• Enhance project AI skills and tooling (commands like /commit, /wrap, /merge-to-main, /review).
• Extend agent memory capacity within design limits.
• Design and implement backend and frontend features and functionality.
• Build APIs, pipelines, and environments aligned with architecture standards.
• Ensure consistency and quality in system architecture and design principles.
• Drive production-ready code using AI-enabled review tools.
• Improve development processes with AI-assisted technologies.
