Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Senior Engineer to architect, implement, and maintain the systems behind Alpaca Crypto, enabling millions of users to trade across spot and derivatives with high throughput and strict latency controls. You will lead the design of scalable crypto trading infrastructure, risk management, settlement, and compliance integrations while collaborating with a globally distributed team.

This role is fully remote, with leadership reporting to the Head of Crypto and CTO as the product

Qualifications

• Experience building a CLOB exchange, HFT, market-making, or high-throughput, low-latency financial systems.
• Backend development experience of at least 4 years.
• Proficient in at least one modern language (Go preferred).
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Hands-on with Bash, Linux, and Docker; Kubernetes is a plus.
• Interest in Alpaca's crypto/trading infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement crypto spot and derivatives exchange components.
• Design high-performance matching engine and risk systems.
• Maintain software quality and test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews and on-call support.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and regulators.
