Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Senior Engineer to architect, implement, and maintain the crypto exchange systems powering a regulated, multi-asset platform. You will lead the crypto engineering efforts for spot and derivatives, including matching engines, APIs, and risk controls.

You will work with a cross-functional team in a fully remote setup, reporting initially to the Head of Crypto and later to the CTO as the product matures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of backend software development experience.
• Experience building a high-performance trading platform or similar financial system.
• Proficiency in at least one modern language (GoLang preferred).
• Experience with SQL databases.
• Hands-on with Bash, Linux, and Docker; Kubernetes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable crypto spot and derivatives exchange components.
• Implement backend services and web applications.
• Lead code reviews and ensure test coverage.
• Troubleshoot incidents and be on-call as needed.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership.
