Job summary

Canto is hiring its first in‑house legal leader to build and scale a modern legal function from the ground up. This role focuses on commercial contracting as a growth driver — not just risk mitigation — reporting to the CFO, with AI-enabled contracting processes.

You'll own end‑to‑end contracting operations for Sales, implement a CLM system, and partner with executive leadership to enable rapid deal velocity while maintaining global compliance.

Qualifications

• JD and active bar membership in good standing.
• 5–8 years of SaaS or technology law experience, in‑house or with law firms.
• Strong experience negotiating commercial SaaS agreements (MSAs, DPAs, NDAs).
• Working knowledge of data privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).
• Demonstrated ability to build processes from scratch and scale legal infra.

Responsibilities

• Drive Commercial Contracting & Sales Enablement: negotiate and execute SaaS agreements within guardrails; train Sales to handle routine negotiations.
• Own & Scale Contracting Operations: lead end-to-end contracting for customer/vendor agreements; implement AI-enabled CLM; develop templates and workflows.
• Manage Risk Across Vendor Relationships, Privacy, and Governance: lead data privacy work, regulatory alignment, and ongoing risk monitoring.
• Lead the Legal Function: advise across commercial matters; manage outside counsel; partner with Security and executive leadership.
