Appian is seeking a Lead Applied AI Engineer to drive enterprise AI systems end-to-end, spanning agents, orchestration, and model extraction from existing applications.

You will mentor engineers, influence technical docs, and ship reliable AI-powered automation at enterprise scale in a remote US-friendly environment. Join a team focused on precision, learning, and high code quality to advance Appian's AI-Powered Process Automation platform.

Qualifications

• B.S. in CS or related field.
• 7+ years of software development with a BS or 5+ with MS.
• Strong distributed-systems background incl. retries, idempotency, long-running tasks.
• Own production service end-to-end with observability.
• Experience using AI coding assistants and applying AI-generated code in production.
• Excellent ability to communicate highly technical architectures.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and optimize production AI systems while staying hands-on.
• Design reliable agents and orchestration with safety and scope awareness.
• Extract requirements and specs from source, metadata, tests, and runtime behavior.
• Model semantic and dependency retrieval across large enterprise estates.
• Build evaluation and CI pipelines to gate quality and catch regressions.
• Use AI coding tools to ship faster without compromising quality.
• Engineer for performance and scale, ensuring enterprise reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers to accelerate technical growth.
• Influence documentation and share expertise across teams.
