This independent contractor role handles calls across healthcare, government, insurance, and more, delivering accurate interpretation while maintaining cultural sensitivity.

The position requires fluency in Kapingamarangi and English, strong listening and note-taking skills, and the ability to work independently in a quiet home environment.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Kapingamarangi and English is required.
• Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to assess regional accents.
• Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills for accurate interpretation.
• Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to adapt to LanguageLine technology enhancements and work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to interpreting sessions in a friendly, professional manner.
• Render concepts accurately according to interpretation conventions.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain professional demeanor throughout sessions and stay neutral on sensitive topics.
• Remain calm during emergencies and high-volume periods, especially on 911 calls.
• Follow client instructions and protect LEP privacy per protocol.
