Job summary

ICA Language Services seeks an experienced Japanese Language Instructor for a part-time, virtual assignment focusing on reading and written language development. The instructor will tailor lessons to reading comprehension and kanji recognition, using authentic texts and tech tools.

Collaboration with an ASL interpreter will ensure effective communication. Ideal candidates hold ILR 4+ in Japanese and ILR 2+ in English, with prior adult education experience and flexibility for a remote schedule.

Qualifications

• ILR Level 4 or higher proficiency in Japanese.
• ILR Level 2 or higher proficiency in English.
• Experience teaching Japanese as a foreign language to adult learners.
• Knowledge of Japanese grammar, vocabulary, and reading instruction methodologies.
• Ability to develop and adapt instructional materials for individualized learning.
• Proficiency with virtual teaching platforms and instructional technology.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized Japanese language instruction focused exclusively on reading and written language skills.
• Develop and adapt instructional materials to strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and kanji recognition.
• Use visual aids, written explanations, authentic Japanese texts, and technology-based resources to support learning.
• Adapt instructional approaches to accommodate the student's learning and communication needs.
• Coordinate effectively with the assigned ASL interpreter to ensure clear communication during instruction.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
