Job summary

Commence is seeking an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to lead security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for federal programs. You’ll partner with the CIO, ISSM, and project teams to embed security into project plans and ensure timely ATOs across CMS, VA, DoD, IRS, and DHS programs.

You’ll manage SSPs, POA&Ms, and security documentation, while tracking vulnerabilities with Tenable Nessus, Defender, and AWS/Azure environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of information assurance or cybersecurity experience, including 3+ years as an ISSO or A&A lead for federal information systems.
• Has personally taken at least one federal system through an initial ATO or reauthorization under NIST SP, including SSP authorship and POA&M management.
• Working knowledge of at least two of CMS ARS/IS2P2, VA 6500, DoD RMF and NIST SP 800-171/CMMC, IRS Pub 1075 & 4812, DHS 4300A.
• FedRAMP and HIPAA experience a plus; familiarity with vulnerability outputs and remediation.
• Proficient with AWS and Microsoft 365/Azure; strong writing and communication under deadlines.
• Requirements include US citizenship and ability to obtain federal suitability.

Responsibilities

• Lead system security and authorization for federal systems and liaise with agency reps.
• Coordinate with CIO, ISSM, and project teams to embed security milestones in plans.
• Prepare SSP, POA&M, and evidence for ATOs across multiple agencies.
• Maintain continuous monitoring and reporting in agency GRC tools; manage remediation tasks.
• Ensure compliance with CMS ARS, IS2P2, NIST SP 800-171/CMMC, HIPAA and related standards.
