Job summary

Department of Education Headquarters seeks an Information System Security Officer (ISSO) at GS-2210-14 to oversee IT security controls and security authorization documents, ensuring systems comply with mandated policies and requirements.

The ISSO will provide security analyses, develop POA&Ms for vulnerabilities, and manage remediation efforts while supporting ongoing compliance monitoring. Telework eligibility is available for this position.

Qualifications

• Education cannot be substituted for experience for this position and grade level.
• Foreign Education: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
• If you are using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, you must submit a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing the implementation of IT security controls and security authorization documents to ensure the system is compliant with mandated security policies and requirements.
• Providing technical recommendations and security analysis for each system, ensuring appropriate security measures are in place, generating POA&Ms for vulnerabilities, and managing POAM closures.
• Continuously validating the organization against policies, guidelines, procedures, regulations, and laws to ensure compliance and define/implement policies and procedures to protect systems.
