Job summary

Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) seeks a Telephone Intake Paralegal for the Centralized Intake Unit in Baltimore, with 100% remote work after a training period in the Baltimore office. The role handles client intake, eligibility screening, and related duties to support attorneys and clients across MLA’s programs.

Qualified candidates will have strong communication, customer service, and computer skills, plus experience in legal services and ability to multitask.

Qualifications

• Basic written and oral communication skills with computer proficiency.
• Experience in a law firm or legal services.
• Spanish language proficiency is strongly preferred.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, and multitask.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial client interviews and follow-up communications.
• Screen clients for eligibility for MLA services.
• Complete intakes and transfer calls to staff attorneys using MLA’s case management system.
• Obtain and verify client information and supporting documentation.
• Make referrals, as appropriate.
• Assist with training and onboarding of new team members.
• Participate in team meetings and process improvement discussions.
• Support and collaborate with a team of 35+ staff to ensure effective operations.
