Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute, a DEAC-accredited online school, seeks an experienced Instructional Designer to join the Curriculum Team in a remote role limited to certain US states. You will design courses, develop assessments, and collaborate with SME partners to deliver engaging distance education.

You will apply adult learning theory, ensure accessibility, and source multimedia resources while aligning curricula with outcomes and supporting QA and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of professional instructional design experience.
• Minimum of one year of professional instructional design experience at a higher education institution.
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction.
• Practical experience with learning management systems and course-authoring software.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills with the ability to independently follow through to successful completion of projects within a deadline.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and identify objectives/outcomes for new and revised distance learning courses.
• Create course shells, syllabi, modules, and lessons in Canvas using authoring tools like native Canvas tools, CidiLabs, Design Plus, and Canva.
• Source digital textbooks and multimedia resources, citing resources appropriately.
• Design engaging online course materials, including multimedia elements, assessments, and discussions to measure student learning.
• Assist with QA processes to ensure alignment with learning objectives and provide ongoing improvements.
