Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CIC required.
• Experience: 5 years inpatient hospital coding; trauma facility experience preferred.
• Knowledge: ICD-10-CM/PCS; anatomy and medical terminology.
• Communication: strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient records using ICD-10-CM/PCS for reimbursement and compliance.
• Ensure specificity of diagnoses and procedures for hospital charges.
• Query physicians when documentation is unclear for coding.
• Stay updated on coding guidelines and reimbursement rules.
• Assign ICD-10 codes and DRGs accurately; maintain high productivity.
• Adhere to AHIMA standards and internal policies.
• Support department goals and mentor less experienced staff.
