Job summary

DEFCON AI, Inc. is seeking a data extraction specialist for a fully remote position. You will pull structured facts from lengthy narratives and tie each fact to its exact passage, ensuring citations are valid and verifiable.

You will work within a team that handles government/cloud‑based data, validating extractions and preserving traceability for downstream matching and retrieval systems. The role emphasizes consistency and volume across diverse document types.

Qualifications

• 3+ years extracting structured data from unstructured, narrative text in production settings.
• Ability to trace output back to its source passages with citations.
• Strong Python with hands-on NLP or information-extraction tooling experience.
• Extraction experience in government, investigative, legal, financial-crime, or intelligence-adjacent settings.
• LLM-based extraction with structured output schemas and validation against source text.
• Experience where extracted facts feed downstream matching, scoring, or retrieval systems.

Responsibilities

• Extract structured facts from long, free-text, narrative, and semi-structured documents.
• Maintain a traceable pointer from every extracted fact back to the exact source passage.
• Validate that every cited passage supports the extracted fact and flag unsupported citations.
• Distinguish a stated total from a derived sum in financial narratives and retain contributing items.
• Consume the recorded rule context and keep cited facts separate from validity decisions.
• Apply the team’s extraction approach consistently across new document types.
• Handle ambiguous, contradictory, or incomplete source text without guessing; flag it.
• Collaborate with retrieval teammates on downstream needs for extracted facts.
