Job summary

Universal Health Services (UHS) is seeking an Inpatient Coder for its Appeals department in the Western Region CBO. The role focuses on DRG validation, drafting detailed appeal letters, and reviewing clinical documentation to support billed diagnoses.

This position can be remote or in-office, with compensation ranging from $24.80 to $37.20 per hour based on experience. Prior DRG experience and CCS certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• CCS certification required; other certifications considered.
• 1–3 years coding experience; 3–5 years preferred.
• Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Understanding of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Perform DRG validation reviews in response to third-party audits.
• Review audit findings to understand diagnosis codes and rationale.
• Analyze medical records to obtain supporting documentation.
• Write appeal letters to third-party payers to prevent downgrades.
• Assign DRG audits to nurse auditors as needed.
• Assist appeals department with data analysis and documentation.
• Support patient inquiries related to coding on bills.
