Job summary

The Contractor Consultants is seeking a Human Resources Manager to build and scale the HR function for a fully remote, US-based organization. You will own multi-state HR operations, ensure California labor law compliance, and design scalable onboarding/offboarding processes for a growing distributed workforce.

This is a hands-on builder role with autonomy to shape an end-to-end HR department, policies, and documentation in a fast-paced B2B services environment.

Qualifications

• 5-8+ years of hands-on HR generalist experience in small business or startup.
• Experience owning HR operations for a fully remote, multi-state US workforce.
• Hands-on experience with California labor law compliance.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local HR compliance and building workflows.

Responsibilities

• Translate an in-flight HR audit into a scalable HR playbook with processes and documentation.
• Manage core HR operations and compliance for US employees and international contractors.
• Standardize onboarding and offboarding workflows by role and location.
• Own the Employee Handbook and core HR policies with risk-aware guidance.
• Serve as the primary HR contact for remote, multi-state employee issues.
• Oversee HR data integrity and centralize records within the HRIS.
