Job summary

Extended Stay America is seeking a Director of Safety & Security to lead crisis management, risk assessment, and security programs across our properties. The role focuses on coordinating with hotel management, regional asset managers, and law enforcement to protect guests and staff.

You will travel up to 75% and require a strong background in safety leadership, with English and Spanish language communication skills preferred.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Safety & Security experience required, prior hotel safety experience or related public safety background preferred.
• Ability to speak and write in Spanish preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in related field

Responsibilities

• Ability to assimilate new concepts and practices into the position and provide effective on-the-job training to field and HSC teams.
• Ability to evaluate and identify opportunities from a strategic perspective and develop plans to meet organizational goals.
• Monitors risk intelligence sources and shares information on potential threats with leadership and stakeholders.
• Provides relevant reporting (threat assessment, risk mitigation, incident trends) for internal awareness at hotels.
• Serves as a primary contact for hotel management on safety and security matters and actions.
• Ensures implementation of policy and compliance programs.
• Assists with virtual and in-person safety training for the program.
• Maintains access to safety information and tools for hotels.
• Acts as primary contact under the crisis management plan for assigned hotels.
• Liaises with governmental agencies on safety matters and responds to inquiries from law enforcement as needed.
• Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory standards applicable to hotels (safety, fire, codes).
• Presents well in public speaking and written communication; analyzes data for strategic decisions.
• Maintains discretion and confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Solves problems, identifies preventive actions, and collaborates with stakeholders.
• Makes decisions independently and conducts in-depth investigations.
• Manages time, meets deadlines, and escalates delays.
• Motivates hotel leaders and staff to perform and seeks innovative solutions.
