Job summary

Howard Financial is seeking an Accountant to join the Hospitality team, handling daily and month-end accounting for full-service hotel clients. The role focuses on high-volume transactions, tight deadlines, and speedy accuracy, including daily income journals and multi-processor credit card reconciliations.

The position requires US GAAP knowledge, a relevant degree, and strong English communication. 100% remote, with growth opportunities in a collaborative, international team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience in a high-volume transactional environment.
• Hotel or hospitality accounting experience preferred; broad high-volume experience considered.
• Hands-on experience with credit card reconciliations across multiple processors.
• Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Solid understanding of US GAAP and accrual accounting.
• Professional English (C1) for client communication.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under daily deadlines.
• Curious, self-driven problem solver who researches issues independently.
• Flexibility to work extended hours during month-end close.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post five daily income journals on a strict schedule: three by 10:00 a.m. EST and two by 2:00 p.m. EST.
• Process high volumes of rooms, food & beverage, and outlet transactions with speed and accuracy.
• Reconcile credit card activity across processors (e.g., Fiserv, Elavon, Amex, FreedomPay).
• Reconcile daily revenue between Oracle OPERA and Profit Sword.
• Support month-end close within a five-day window, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies independently, researching root causes.
• Communicate with hotel finance teams and staff to obtain missing documentation and clear exceptions.
• Prepare reconciliations and schedules for Senior Accountant/Controller review.
• Flag process gaps and suggest improvements to speed up daily work and close.
