Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a part-time Hospital Coder to apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4 coding, and UHDDS guidelines from a fully remote work environment. You will query providers to clarify documentation and ensure accurate reimbursement while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Prior hospital coding experience and familiarity with 3M 360 and EPIC are preferred; certification through AHIMA or AAPC in good standing is required or preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
• Prior hospital medical coding experience preferred.
• Prior experience with 3M 360 and EPIC system preferred.
• Coding certification/credential through AHIMA or AAPC and in good standing required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Use a computerized encoding system to facilitate accurate coding.
• Sequence diagnoses and procedures following ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT4, UHDDS, and regulatory guidelines.
• Support external reporting by coding data elements accurately for reimbursement and reporting.
• Query providers for clarification when documentation is incomplete or ambiguous.
• Advance coding knowledge through continuing education and ethics in coding.
• Attend coding meetings and LEAN problem-solving activities.
• Maintain a remote coding work area that protects PHI and adheres to HIPAA.
• Organize the shared drive for the medical coding department and perform other duties as assigned.
