Job summary

Achieve is a leading digital personal finance company seeking a Mortgage Underwriter (HELOC) to evaluate loan applications and assess borrower creditworthiness. This hybrid role blends remote work with 1–3 days per month in Tempe, requiring residency in the greater Phoenix area and ongoing adaptation to underwriting guidelines and industry changes.

You will partner with Mortgage Advisors and operations teams to ensure high-quality underwriting decisions, manage income verification, and maintain

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3–5 years UW II or more than 5 years UW III in home loans.
• Experience with self-employment verification and income calculation.
• Demonstrated communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume mortgage environment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate loan applications and borrowers' creditworthiness.
• Adhere to departmental SLAs.
• Monitor Regulation B compliance and ensure underwriting decisions meet SLAs.
• Verify income and employment information, review credit history, and calculate collateral value.
• Review appraisals (AVM, PICR, 1004, 1025) and confirm market value.
• Contact 3rd party vendors to resolve conflicting information or appraisal issues.
• Follow underwriting procedures and approve/deny loan requests per guidelines.
• Document reasons for approval/denial and issue adverse action notices.
