Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Finance/Accounting internship for May 31, 2027 to August 6, 2027. The role is remote, with a 40-hour work week (Mon-Fri) during business hours. Applicants must be currently pursuing a finance, accounting, or related degree with junior/senior standing.

The intern will use Excel to automate processes, review charges, and assist in financial analyses and budgeting. No previous experience is required.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Management or related field with junior or senior standing.
• Finance/accounting/business analytics knowledge is preferred.
• Strong Excel and data-analysis capabilities are expected.

Responsibilities

• Use Excel to develop automated processes that minimize manual work.
• Assist in reviewing, analyzing, and investigating discrepancies in charges and help implement changes.
• Prepare financial and statistical analyses and manipulate data for trend calculations and performance measures.
• Develop cost accounting standards and assist in proformas and budgeting, including variance analysis.
• Develop and maintain procedural pricing using market analysis and reimbursement information.
• Assist with operating and capital budgets and provide support for budgeting/finance teams.
• Apply government program rules and payment mechanisms to financial activities.
• Assist with charge reconciliation by reviewing charges and supporting systems.
• Support revenue cycle projects including cash posting, insurance follow-up, and coding/documentation queues.
• Track and update reports; provide administrative support as needed.
• Participate in program development and research related to internal financial reporting.
