This hands-on leadership role emphasizes technical execution (75%) and team leadership (25%), with ownership of architecture, data pipelines, APIs, and security.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on engineering and delivery, including people management.
• Strong backend, data science, and ML foundations with ownership of production systems.
• Experience building and operating agentic AI or LLM apps.
• Proficient in Python, TypeScript/Node.js, SQL; experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and AWS.
• Experience with scalable data pipelines, streaming, and distributed systems.
• Significant startup experience and ownership from build to scale.
• Proven enterprise client engagements and engineering leadership.
• Excellent executive communication and commercial judgment.

$300,000–$365,000 base + bonus + equity

Full-time | Approximately 10–20% travel

A profitable, growing healthcare AI company is hiring a Head of Applied AI Engineering to build and lead its forward-deployed engineering organization. The company develops predictive models and AI agents for enterprise healthcare, life sciences, and wellness organizations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, with approximately 75% of your time focused on technical execution and 25% on team leadership. Youll own deployments from technical discovery through production delivery and account expansion, working closely with Engineering, Product, and commercial teams.

What youll do

• Build and deploy production agentic AI applications, including voice and multimodal conversational systems.
• Develop predictive models and workflows supporting patient engagement, care navigation, scheduling, and operational efficiency.
• Lead architecture and integrations with enterprise EHR/EMR, CRM, and claims data systems.
• Build reliable APIs, data pipelines, real‑time services, and agent infrastructure with appropriate security, compliance, and output guardrails.
• Hire, mentor, and lead Applied AI Engineers while setting technical standards and delivery practices.
• Serve as the senior technical partner for strategic enterprise accounts, translating business needs into measurable outcomes.
• Partner with Sales and Growth on technical discovery, new opportunities, and account expansion.
• Turn deployment patterns and client feedback into reusable platform capabilities.

What youll bring

• 10+ years of experience spanning hands‑on engineering and technical delivery, including people management.
• A strong backend engineering, data science, and machine learning foundation, with direct ownership of production systems.
• Experience building and operating agentic AI or LLM applications.
• Hands‑on experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, SQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and cloud infrastructure such as AWS.
• Experience with scalable data pipelines, event‑driven architectures, streaming, and distributed systems.
• Significant early‑stage or high‑growth startup experience, with broad ownership from initial build through scaling.
• Experience leading enterprise client engagements and engineering teams.
• Executive communication skills and commercial judgment, paired with a collaborative, low‑ego approach.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

Especially relevant experience

• Healthcare, health insurance, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, or wellness.

Compensation and work arrangement

• $300,000–$365,000 base salary, plus performance bonus and equity.
• Remote within the United States, working U.S. time zones.
