Job summary

Packetlabs is seeking a Penetration Tester - Hardware to lead security assessments of embedded and IoT devices, focusing on silicon, firmware, and board design. You will perform end-to-end hardware pentests, analyze firmware, and provide actionable remediation guidance to clients in a fully remote role within Texas or Florida.

Strong hands-on electronics, experience with JTAG/SWD/UART, and tooling like Ghidra/IDA are essential, with excellent communication to cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• A graduate of an Information Security, Computer Science, or Computer/Electrical Engineering degree program (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• Strong electronics fundamentals; read schematics and datasheets; reason about boards.
• Soldering ability (SMD) and experience with debug interfaces (JTAG, SWD, UART).
• Experience extracting firmware and analyzing embedded binaries.
• Comfort with bench instruments: logic analyzer, oscilloscope, multimeter.
• Knowledge of ARM/Cortex-M, MIPS, AVR, or RISC-V and RTOS/bare-metal concepts.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute end-to-end hardware penetration tests on embedded and IoT devices.
• Identify and exploit on-board debug interfaces to gain code or memory access.
• Extract firmware, analyze it for vulnerabilities, and assess attack surfaces.
• Provide actionable remediation guidance and client advisory materials.
• Build lab tooling, maintain methodology, and contribute to internal knowledge.
